HEALTHY SOLO

There are many different ways for people to be healthy these days and to live at their optimal health. More and more people are being more proactive about being healthy, in many different ways. People often focus on exercise, nutrition and eating healthy, and alternative healthcare practices that focus on wellness and prevention. Many alternative healthcare practices fall under the umbrella of holistic healthcare. While some healthcare providers and people have very exacting definitions of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), many people consider this to fall under holistic healthcare.

Holistic

Many different alternative healthcare practices are considered to be holistic. Holistic medicine seeks to treat the patient as a whole person made up of interconnected systems, including the different systems that make up their physical body as well as their social, emotional and spiritual well-being, It does not look at a patient’s problem and/or symptoms of a problem as the only thing to treat when a patient is unwell. When a patient is feeling fine, a holistic healthcare provider will still work with them to try to help them reach and maintain their optimal health.

Holistic Healthcare and Western Medicine

Many holistic healthcare providers work in conjunction with a patient’s traditional, Western medicine healthcare plan. More and more Western medical doctors are recognizing the value of holistic healthcare. Depending on a particular patient’s needs, conventional doctors may suggest that they work in conjunction with a holistic healthcare provider or providers. While it is still not very common, more and more healthcare providers have a Western medical degree in addition to one or more degree or kind of training in a holistic healthcare practice(s). Like a Western medical degree, some branches of holistic healthcare require that practitioners have a certain amount of education and supervised training, as well as passing licensing exams, before they are given a particular title and allowed to practice on their own. There are though, many different holistic healthcare fields that practitioners do not need to have as much education and training before they are allowed to help patients.
